Coal can be obtained through mining at the City Outskirts, Village, Desert, or Underground.
Geodes have a chance to give some coal when opened.
Highest raw drop frequency for coal is the Village (25%)

Uses

The primary use for coal is to be burned for heat.
Additionally, some equipment augmentations require coal (see below).
