{{about|the skill|the enchantment|Cooking (Enchantment)}}
+
'''Cooking''' is a skill that allows raw ingredients to be combined into an edible food; healing hitpoints when eaten, plus giving various buffs depending on the recipe/combination of ingredients used. To do this, the player can add up to 5 ingredients into the pot by interacting with them in Ingredients Window on the right and then using [[heat|Heat]] to cook them.

'''Cooking''' is a skill that allows raw ingredients to be cooked into edible food or potions. Players can add up to 5 ingredients into the pot by interacting with the ingredients window on the right and then using [[heat]] to cook them.

Food has a chance to burn, depending on the player's effective cooking level and the experience given by the recipe. [[Burnt Food|Either burnt food]] or [[Burnt Fish|burnt fish]] is produced when failing depending on the type of ingredients used. Effective cooking level and the amount of ingredients used also affects the level of food produced, which directly affects the amount of health and buff stacks the food will have. By leveling cooking, the player is able to cook better foods that give increased healing and better buffs.

Depending on the player's Effective Cooking [[Levels|level]], food will sometimes burn, giving the player either [[Burnt Food]] or [[Burnt Fish]] depending on the type of ingredients used. The effective cooking level and amount of ingredients used also effects the level of food produced, which directly effects the amount of buff stacks the food will have. Cooking with raw fish has a chance to produce [[Fish Oil]]. By leveling Cooking, the player is able to cook better foods that give increased healing and better buffs.

 +
Cooking goes hand-in-hand with the [[Fishing]], [[Foraging]] and [[Farming]], as the player can cook using the ingredients they obtain.<br />

====Fish Oil Chance====

====Fish Oil Chance====
Oil chance is determined by the total size of fish in the pot, with each size giving 5% chance. A chance of over 100% does not give additional fish oil and a negative chance is capped at 0%.

==Determining Produced Food==
+
==Quality==
 +
The quality (''augmentation levels'') of your food is based on two factors:

===Ingredients===
+
*The first factor is the ''base quality'' of your recipe and ingredients. Higher tier ingredients generally result in better food, where the Exp of an ingredient are a good indicator for its tier.
There are six factors associated with each ingredient:

#'''"Category" or "Tags"''' - This denotes which category or categories of food the ingredient belongs to. Ingredients can have multiple tags, and the value of a tag is equal to the size of the ingredient.
+
*The second factor is your ''effective cooking level'', which is a combination of your Cooking level (including mastery) and additional modifiers such as an augmented [[Ladle]]. Each 30 effective levels the quality will be improved by 1.
#*There are a total of 13 Tags: Fruit, Vegetable, Grain, Dairy, Eggs, Meat, Beast, Poultry, Fish, Monster, Spice, Sweetener, and Preservative.

#'''Size''' - This is used to calculate the value of the ingredient's category/tag, and the time it takes to cook the dish.

#'''XP''' - The amount of experience gained when the ingredient is cooked. This is used to calculate difficulty (Chance to burn the food).

#'''Heat''' - The amount of heat required to cook the ingredient.

#'''Difficulty''' - Determines the burn chance of food.

#'''Buff''' - The buff effect that is added to the produced food when this ingredient is cooked. Only some ingredients add buffs to food when cooked.

#*If more than one unique buff-granting ingredient is used in the same recipe, the food produced will ''always'' be Questionable Food.

#*The buff effect applies the buff with a level of 2, and cannot be increased or decreased.

#*Buffs stack with enchants from other sources such as armor. E.g., if the player has 5 Gathering scrolls on their ring and consumes a dish that grants Gathering 2, the player will have a total effect of Gathering 7.

====Ingredient Table====
+
Each quality of food will give additional hp healed based on the base hp of the recipe and 2 additional stack of its buff.
{| class="wikitable sortable mw-collapsible hover-highlight"
+

 +
==Buffs==
 +
Eating food created with a few specific ingredients (see below) can give various buffs to help actions similar to [[Enchanting|Enchantments]]. The amount of stacks given by the buff will be determined by the quality of the food which, in turn, is determined by your Effective Cooking Level which is a combination of your Cooking level and additional modifiers such as using an augmented [[Ladle]].
 +

 +

 +
Food Buffs with an enchant equivalent will still stack with the enchant effect making it useful to have buffs when doing various activities.
 +

 +
:- Example:(If you have a 30% Inferno buff from [[Scroll_of_Inferno|Scroll of Inferno]], and a 10% Inferno Buff from food, you will have a 40% Inferno buff total)
 +

 +

 +
Normal and combat food can both be eaten at any time from the inventory to restore HP, combat buffs will only be applied if the food is eaten during combat. Combat buffs will not be keep upon exiting combat, while skill based buffs can be applied by consuming food directly from the inventory and will remain permanently until used. All non combat buffs will be consumed even when doing unrelated actions except combat actions.
 +

 +
:- ''Inferno stacks will be used even when not [[Smithing]]''
 +

 +
==Ingredients==
 +

 +
Ingredients can be combined to produce food with a desired buff. Neutral ingredients(ingredients without an Enchantment) can be combined with a modifier(ingredient with an Enchantment) ingredient with an Enchantment to make a recipe with a desired buff.
 +

 +
Combat recipes can not have skilling related buffs and vice versa, skilling related recipes can not have combat buffs.
 +

 +
:-'' Example: To make food with the Inferno buff you need to [[Pepper]] to a recipe.''
 +
::-'' 1 Pumpkin and 1 Pepper will result in Grilled Veggies with the Inferno buff. In addition, 4 Pumpkins and 1 Pepper will result in Grilled Veggies but the level of the food will be higher and subsequently have more buff stacks.''

===Recipes===

There are a total of 39 discovered recipes in the in-game recipe database. Each recipe has the following properties:

#'''ID''' - The unique ID of the recipe in the recipe list within the game's code.

#'''HP''' - The base hitpoint recovery value granted by the food when cooked without factoring ingredients or other quality bonuses.

#'''Value''' - The price that the dish can be sold to the vendor for.

#'''Ingredient''' '''Tags''' - The ingredient types that are required to cook the fish. E.g., the Birdie Pasta recipe has the ''poultry'' and ''grain'' tags, meaning that cooking 1x Raw Chicken and 1x Rice would create this recipe.

===Food Quality===
+
==Equipment==
The quality of food is determined by the following formula:

<math>\frac{\text{Number of Types of Ingredients}}{3} \times {\text{Slider}} + \frac{Effective Level}{40}</math>

Any fractional amounts gives the chance to craft a food with an additional +1 quality.

Every 40 Effective Cooking levels will provide +1 Quality to food produced.

====Food Healing====

The amount of HP recovered when the dish is consumed is based on the quality of food.

<math>\text{Immediate HP} = (Quality+1)\times \text{Base Immediate HP}</math>

<math>\text{HP per Tick} = \frac{\text{Quality} + 1}{2}\times \text{Base HP per Tick}</math>

<math>\text{Total HP} = \text{Immediate HP} + \text{HP per Tick} \times \text{Number of Ticks}</math>

Seafood Curry has a base HP value of 41 HP and 8 ticks of 37 HP. A Seafood Curry with +9 Quality will recover <math>(9+1) \times 41 + \frac{9+1}{2} \times 37 \times 8 = 1,890</math> hitpoints.

====Food Buffs====

The number of stacks of buff that will be applied when a dish is consumed is determined by the following formula:

<math>Quality\times2+1</math>

Food with buffs can be created by using special buff-granting ingredients while cooking.

===Cooking Speed===

Cooking speed is determined by the following formula:

<math> \text{General Cooking Time(s)} = 3\times \left ( 0.8 + 0.2\times \text{Total Size of Ingredients} ^ {0.85} \right ) \times \frac{1}{ 1 + \text{Ladle Haste}\times 4% } \times \frac{1}{ 1 + \text{Haste}% }</math><br />

*The first part of the formula represents the base cooking speed of the ingredients.
+
[[Equipment#Tools|Equipment]] that can used to support Cooking.
*The second part accounts for the speed bonus from cooking stats on an augmented ladle.
+
{| class="wikitable sortable"
*The third part accounts for the speed bonus from the Haste enchantment.
+
|<img src="https://idlescape.com/images/combat/equipment/greater_ladle.png" alt=""  width="22">

There are further modifiers depending on the cooking types.

<math> \text{Alchemy Time(s)} = \text{General Cooking Time} \times \frac{1}{ 1 + \text{Deep Fry}% }</math><br />

<math> \text{Food Cooking Time(s)} = \text{General Cooking Time} \times \frac{1}{ 1 + \text{Deep Fry}% } \times 2</math><br />

*Preparation time uses the general cooking time. Preparation can be sped up indirectly with the [[Blitzing]] enchantment which prepares multiple ingredients at a time.

*Alchemy uses the [[Deep Frying]] enchantment to speed up brewing.

*Food cooking also uses the [[Deep Frying]] enchantment and additionally has it's duration doubled.

All cooking types are also affected by the [[Inferno]] enchantment which gives a chance to instantly complete the next action.

===Difficulty===

Chance of success is determined by the following formula:

<math>max \left ( 0,\ min \left ( 1,\ \frac{( 100 - \frac{( \text {difficulty} ^{\frac{5}{2}} * 3)}{\text {effLvl}})}{100} + \text {clvl} + \frac{effLvl * \text {mlvl}}{100} - \text {olvl} \right) \right ) </math>

where '''difficulty''' is the total difficulty of the ingredients, '''effLvl''' the effective cooking level, '''clvl''', '''mlvl''' and '''olvl''' are the level of the [[Cooking (Enchantment)|Cooking]], [[Master Chef]] and [[Overly Well Done]] enchantment.

==Buffs==

Cooking and eating food created with a few specific ingredients (see below) can give various buffs, similar to those from [[Enchanting|enchantments]]. The amount of buff stacks given by the food is determined by the quality of the food and players effective cooking level (base cooking level + additional modifiers such as an augmented [[ladle]]), players can hover over the cooking skill icon to see their effective level.

<blockquote>Identical food buffs and enchantments will stack. ''For example, if a player has an active 30% Inferno buff from a [[Scroll of Inferno|scroll of inferno]], and a 10% inferno buff from food, they will have a total of 40%.''</blockquote>

Food can be eaten any time out of combat to recover health, food added to the combat inventory may be used during combat.

Combat buffs will only be applied if the food is eaten during combat. Combat buffs will not be kept upon exiting combat, while skill-based buffs gained from eating food in combat will be kept until used once out of combat.

Non-combat buff stacks are consumed by performing an action out of combat, regardless of the type of skill being trained. ''I.E inferno stacks will be used even when not [[smithing]]''
