==General==
Fishing was reworked and released in the v0.10.0 update, it received a massive overhaul and was the first gathering skill in Idlescape that used the node system.
+
Four zones are available for aspiring fishers, each offering different fish to be caught. The time required per fishing action is dependent on the player's haste, and can be lowered with the [[Scroll of Haste|haste enchantment]]. Each action, the player has a certain chance of successfully catching one of the fishes available at that location. This chance will start at 20% and gradually increase with increasing level, up to a maximum of 100%. Although the theoretical maximum chance in the last area is 81.3%, this can be boosted to 100% using [[Scroll of Fishing|fishing enchantment]] scrolls.

Gathering with a node system increases the amount of gathering areas without increasing the amount of zones, the player starts fishing in a zone and
+
The caught fish can be cooked to offer hitpoint replenishment while [[Combat|fighting]] and various buffs for out of combat actions. See [[cooking]] for more information.

Nodes are found by the player while fishing and are dependent on the effective fishing level and bait power stats, higher numbers in those stats gives increased node find chance and decreased find speed.
+
Players have a small chance of obtaining [[Sunken Treasure|sunken treasures]]. These can be opened for gold and sometimes [[gem]]s. More importantly, these treasures have a rare chance of dropping [[talismans]] used in [[runecrafting]], and an even rarer chance of dropping [[Modified Diving Gloves]] or a [[Forgotten Soul]].

The caught fish can be cooked with the [[cooking]] skill to offer hitpoint replenishment while [[Combat|fighting]] and various buffs for out of combat actions. There are a lot of different recipes that can be used for different benefits, more information can be found on the [[cooking]] page

Players have a small chance of obtaining either [[Sunken Treasure]]s or [[Ancient Treasure]]s. These can be opened for gold and sometimes [[gem]]s.

Ancient treasures have a rare chance of dropping fishing gear such as [[Ancient Harpoon]], [[Ancient Fishing Net]] and [[Ancient Fishing Rod]] which are used to craft Idlescape's first legendary item [[Ocean's Embrace]]

Sunken treasures have a rare chance of dropping [[Modified Diving Gloves]] or a [[Forgotten Soul]].

==Equipment==

==Equipment==
<!-- remove after some time and change to a more "rework is old now" text -->After the rework, equipment were changed drastically, meaning you no longer need a special type of gear to fish in an area, but rather having enough stats to actually being able to find nodes.
+
Different equipment is needed to fish in each individual fishing zone. This equipment is created in the [[crafting]] menu. All fishing equipment items are permanent which means players only need 1. While fishing in Lazy River a single feather is consumed for each attempted cast. Feathers can be purchased from the general shop, the market, or obtained by killing [[chicken]]s in the combat zone [[Farm]]. It is possible to vault fishing items and still use them for fishing.
Fishing level requirements for zones still exist and are on about the same level as before.

Bait can be used by moving it into the tacklebox. A tacklebox equipment does not need to be equipped.

The xp per hour figures shown below are without any boosts, using only the base equipment.

A higher effective fishing level will increase the chance to catch the higher tier fish in the zone.

The [[Stormy Seas]] is a dangerous location. While fishing there, a [[Swordfish]] or [[Ascended]] will occasionally spawn and attack the player. This fight cannot be escaped from, and losing will lock the player out of the location for 15 minutes.

== Catch Chance ==
There are various stats that can be gained through levels and equipment that affect fishing.
+
The chance for catching a fish is as follows:

===Effective Fishing Level===
+
<math>catchChance = min \left (1, max \left ( 0.2, 0.2 + \frac {FishingLvl - LvlRequired}{80} + EnchantPower \right )\right )\times 100%</math>
Effective fishing level is the combination of the players fishing and mastery level and the fishing stats on equipment.

It affects various secondary stats:

*Chance of finding and gathering from a node
+
==Fish Type Chance==
*Rarity of resources
+
Frequency of catching low and high tier fish.
*Quantity of resources in a node

*Chance to preserve bait

===Bait Preservation===

<math> lowFrequency = 100 + EffFishingLvl </math>
Bait preservation comes from both effective fishing level and the [[Bait Preservation|enchantment]] of the same name which comes enchanted by default on the [[Fisherman's Bucket Hat]]. It determines the chance that a bait is used on an action and is capped at 50%.

Bait preservation is reduced by [[Deadliest Catch]] but cannot go lower than 0%.
+
<math> highFrequency = 50 + EffFishingLvl </math>

===Bait Power===

Increases the chance and speed of finding nodes, and the size of nodes found. Chance is capped at 100% and speed is capped at 1 second.

===Reel Power===
+
Chance to catch high tier fish.
Increases the chance and speed of gathering resources. Chance is capped at 100% and speed is capped at 1 second.

===Bonus Rarity===
+
<math> highCatchChance = \frac{highFrequency}{lowFrequency + highFrequency} \times 100% </math>
Some nodes require a certain bonus rarity to start appearing. Rare resources require a rarity higher than the node.

Nodes and resources have a cap where bonus rarity above will not provide additional drop frequency.

Bonus Rarity must be above the minimum rarity for resources to appear. Resources not listed here require no bonus rarity to collect.
